Detection of National and Local Events from Twitter

(in English) Event detection from Twitter has received a great amount of attention. There are two methods how to detect the events at previous work. One is to correct tweets by using keywords about event we decided in advance. The other is to correct tweets without laying out a detection event or keywords and analyze tweets for discovering what kind of event occur. The latter method has two types for detection that are news event spreading nationwide and local events that are comparatively small-scale and limited area such as festivals or concert events. We attempted detection and classification by same framework between National events that are news or seasonal ones spreading nationwide such as autumn leaves and Local events that are limited area or facility by analyzing tweet’s geographical variance. In previous works, it is common to detect the news events by non-geo-attached tweets and local events by geo-attached tweets, were not addressed to attempt to detect their events concurrently. We conducted the experiment of event detection with tweets data on November 2013, versatile national events such as sports, news, anime, movie and all that and local events that are remarkable ones.
