Massive MIMO enables the improvement on the transmission rate without increasing the burden on the signal processing by employing a large number of antennas at a base station. Even if the interference cancellation techniques are not utilized, the interference signal can be mitigated thanks to a high beam resolution by the massive MIMO transmission using linear or planar array antenna. The authors have evaluated the effect by the massive MIMO in small cell environment using 2GHz band. In this report, we employ quantitative evaluation on the interference rejection when using a cylindrical array antenna at base station. The real propagation channel was measured in small cell environment in an urban area. One desired user and one interference user in adjacent cell are assumed to be located. We evaluate the characteristics of the interference rejection versus the number of elements in the vertical and horizontal plane. It is shown that a sufficient interference reduction using a maximum ratio combining cannot be obtained when using the cylindrical array. Moreover, it is shown that selection on the valid antennas in the horizontal plane for further improvement of transmission quality. |
