As a good example demonstrating an influence of social factors in tasting foods, eating together can change tastes of foods better. Although it has been established that a good mood enhanced by a companion leads this effect, other factors appear to be largely unexplored. Here, we first report that looking in a mirror can make popcorn taste better. Ratings of the tastes of popcorn were shown higher if participants ate popcorn as looking in the mirror, supposed to eat together with another self, compared to eating popcorn alone. No significant changes on the mood states were shown between the beginning and the end of sessions. Therefore, these results suggest that some factors, not only moods, could improve taste when eating together. |
