| 抄録 | （和） | (事前公開アブストラクト) The goal of this study is to determine whether sensory metaphors in Mandarin Chinese are embodied or not. An on-line judgment experiment was conducted. Thirty-six sets of sensory sentences in Mandarin Chinese are created. Each set has four types of sentences with a sequence of photos designating a sensory feeling, including (1) literal sensory sentences, (2) metaphorical sensory sentences, (3) anomalous sensory sentences, and (4) sentences without sensory words. These photos illustrated one of five senses and were performed by a female actor. Participants were instructed to read one of sensory sentences and then watched a sequence of photos. Participants had to decide whether the sensory feeling performed in the photos was mentioned in the previous sentence via pressing the ：Mention； or ：Not Mention； button. The reaction times were measured from the onset of the photos to the button press. The results show that reaction time of literal sensory sentences is significantly faster than the one of metaphorical sensory sentences, which suggests that the bodily experience of five senses shapes the meanings of the literal sensory sentences while the meanings of metaphorical sensory sentences cannot activate the real sensory feelings in the physical world. This study supports the weak embodiment theory and it is hoped to advance our knowledge on the embodiment theory via testing literal and metaphorical sensory sentences. |
