A multidegree-of-freedom ultrasonic motor (MDOF-USM) has high torque at low speeds, a self-holding force and excellent features such as quietness. The MDOF-USM has been expected to be applied to a robot and industrial machinery. Some types of an MDOF-USM using a spherical rotor have been mainly studied. In this paper, the MDOF-USM using a spherical stator is proposed, and vibration modes suitable for a stator and the excitation methods of them are reported. The excitation methods of the vibration modes and their mode-rotations by using piezoceramic plate and multilayered piezoceramic actuator were considered analytically and experimentally. From the evaluation of a prototype spherical stator, the excitation of the vibration mode suitable for the stator were confirmed. In addition, the support method of the spherical stator by a vibration rod which reduces an influence on the vibration mode was proposed. |
