[Invited Talk] Fundamentals and Applications of Optical Wireless Communication

(in English) In recent years, with the internet becomes more and more necessary in people's lives, there is a growing need for high-speed, high-security communication. Optical fiber permits higher data rate transmission than other forms of communications but in many situations, it is difficult to construct fiber cables. Optical wireless communication combines the high-speed of optical fiber and the mobility of wireless communications using radio waves, and it also can provide high security because of the high directivity of light. Moreover, it can offer users the ability to communicate in RF sensitive area and provide a high-speed communication since it has immunity to interference caused by other electronics equipment. However, optical wireless communication has a few challenges toward practical problems that must be overcome, such as multiple access problem, the influence of the reflected light, shielding.
This Talk covers the history, the modulation method, the light reflection characteristic, and some basic knowledge of optical wireless communication using laser or LED visible light. Moreover, the latest research results will be introduced related to the research of improving efficiency of optical wireless communication, optical multiple access scheme, hybrid communication of radio waves and light, a high security communication system using optical wireless communication.
