In order to tackle rapidly increasing traffic, 5th generation (5G) radio access network in mobile communications introduces Massive MIMO technology into small cells using higher frequency bands, and super high bit rate transmission realizing more than 10 Gbps data rate has been investigated. In Massive MIMO using higher frequency bands, from the point of view of realization, as a novel method for hybrid beamforming (BF) that combines analog BF with digital precoding, joint processing of fixed analog BF and channel state information (CSI)-based precoding (FBCP) has been proposed. This report presents technical issues on the Massive MIMO technology using higher frequency bands and introduces principle and algorithm of FBCP as solution of the technical issues. Link level simulations using 256-element uniform planar array show that a throughput of more than 20 Gbps can be achieved by using 400 MHz bandwidth in the 20 GHz band and performances comparison between the full-array type FBCP and the sub-array type FBCP are made in single user and multiuser scenarios. Furthermore, experimental trials to verify the Massive MIMO using higher frequency bands are introduced briefly. |
