FM-Band Noise Current Analysis Focused on Grounding of Power Converter

(in English) FM-band noise current emitted from power converter such as DC-DC converter depends on the structure of chassis of the power converter, vehicle body (body) and conductor connecting the chassis to the vehicle body electrically (grounding). From the analysis of 3D electromagnetic simulation, we hypothesized that these chassis, body and conductor act as a termination for the transmission line consisting of the converter’s shielded cable. The peaks of FM-band noise current calculated from the equivalent circuit based on the hypothesis agreed with those measured from actual circuit within 2% of errors, which indicates the hypothesis is valid. So, the peaks of FM-band noise current are estimated to be the result of noise current reflection caused by the mismatch between the characteristic impedance of the transmission line and the termination. We propose a novel method of inserting resistance that is equivalent to the characteristic impedance mentioned above between the chassis and the body, which achieve approximately 10dB peak suppression.
