Respiratory synchronized DSA imaging for assist of catheter insertion

(in English) Intervention with a catheter is conducted under X-ray fluoroscopy. In this intervention, angiography and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) are conducted to enhance blood vessels. In DSA, displacement and deformation of vessels caused by respiration are not considered because an image for only one phase can be acquired during breath holding. Therefore, physician has to recognize the position of catheter in assuming displacement and transformation of vessels in the operation. In this paper, we propose a new method for generating DSA images corresponding to all respiratory phases and synchronizing with fluoroscopy in order to assist physician in recognizing the position relationship between blood vessels and catheter. In this method, we acquire angiography after deciding field of view under natural respiration in multiple phases and choose a frame of angiography in the most similar respiratory phase with intraoperative fluoroscopy by a pattern matching technique. After synchronization of two sets of images, DSA images are generated by subtracting those two images. The proposed method enables to produce DSA images synchronized with intraoperative fluoroscopy without breath holding and we confirmed effectiveness of the method through an experiment at a clinical site.
