[Special Talk] CURRENT STATUS AND EVOLVING PLAN OF JAPANESE FLAGSHIP LAUNCH VEHICLE
Takanobu Kamiya (MHI) SAT2016-7
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The Japanese flagship launcher, H-IIA and H-IIB have succeeded continuously and the launch success rate has reached to 97 percent. Last year, the H-IIA flight No. 29 launched a commercial satellite in Nov. 2015. Some new technologies such as “upgrade” developed by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) were adopted in the flight, so that the H-IIA is able to inject satellites closer to geostationary orbit than conventional geostationary transfer orbit. To meet various worlds commercial satellite needs, the price of flagship launcher should be verify flexibly, however, the “upgrade” could enhance its performance with some optional items. Therefore, Japanese government started developing a series of new flagship launch vehicle, H3, in order to aim to be more competitive in satellite launch market much. H3 has the plan to launch first flight in FY2020. The launcher would provide attractive price, almost half price compared with previous launcher such as H-IIA and H-IIB, and high reliability succeeding to the previous one. Current status of H-IIA/B and the H3 development is reported.
