Theoretical Investigation of Laser-Diode-Pumped High Efficiency CW Ti:Sapphire Laser

(in English) The efficiency of a continuous wave, laser diode pumped Ti:Sapphire laser were investigated theoretically. The efficiency will be increased by high gain operation due to high intensity pumping, however, the influence on the thermo-optic effect due to high intensity pumping should be investigated. The analysis included the four level laser theory and a cavity design with thermal focusing due to high intensity pumping. By using the thermal focusing and pump beam aberrations, the maximum output power of 0.84 W was obtained at an incident pump power of 3.5 W. The corresponding optical to optical conversion efficiency and slope efficiency were 24% and 34.5%, respectively.
