A Method of Tree Compression with Top Trees and Direct Query Evaluation

(in English) Tree compression methods that utilize the structural information have the advantage that a compressed document can be directly scanned without decompression. Among such methods, we focus on a method with top trees in this paper. We implemented the proposed method and conducted experiments on XML documents of practical size in terms of compression ratio. We also propose a method for manipulating a tree compressed with a top tree without uncompressing the document. Deterministic selecting top-down tree automata are used for
specifying positions in a tree.
