V apor-liquid-solid (VLS) growth of tin dioxide (SnO2) nanowires (NWs) on the c-plane sapphire substrate coated with the 30 nm thick Au catalytic film was performed by atmospheric-pressure CVD utilizing the alternate source supply (ASS) of tin (Sn) and water (H2O). X-ray diffraction measurements and scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations revealed the successful growth of SnO2 NWs by the alternate source supply technique. It was also confirmed that the ASS technique is effective for suppressing the enhancement of the NWs average diameter due to the increase in growth temperature (Tg). In the cycle number range fro m 300 to 700, the NWs average diameter was found to be independent of cycle number. The SnO2 NWs exhibited a broad orange emission associated with O vacancies and/or Sn interstitial atoms and its intensity became larger with increasing Tg. |
