Resonant interactions in nonlinear metamaterial transmission lines

(in English) Nonlinear composite right- and left-handed (CRLH) transmission lines are introduced to utilize as a platform to exhibit significant resonant interactions. CRLH lines support homogeneous oscillations for finite frequencies, such that three wave interaction becomes significant for counter-traveling waves. In addition, the second harmonic wave develops spontaneously via the harmonic resonance. In the case of the soliton decay, the emitted soliton travels backward by the left-handedness, and the temporal width of the incident soliton becomes short with gained amplitude. We next discuss the loss compensation by the introduction of FETs. Finally, the reverse Doppler effect observed in the left-handed traveling-wave FET is characterized experimentally.
