The rapid penetration of cloud computing is causing large file transfers among distributed data
centers and suffering from increased transmission times.
In one-to-many file transfers for, e.g., distributed data among data centers,
our previous study proposed Multipath-Multicast File Transfer that combines the multipath transfer and the multicast transfer, which was implemented by OpenFlow,
to reduce the file transfer completion time for each receiver.
In that scheme, by reflecting the network topology and the link bandwidths,
a file is divided into an appropriate number of blocks, and simultaneously transferred to multiple receivers over multiple phases,
where the best schedule (the flow route assignment to each receiver and the block assignment to each flow route in each phase) is not trivial.
Therefore, we need to try a variety of schedules by examining the transfer performance achieved by each schedule,
while the number of trials in schedule search sometimes becomes large in case of large-scale topologies.
%
In this paper, therefore, we propose a new scheme that combines multiple blocks into a coded block at the sender and sends it to multiple receivers,
which is expected to reduce the number of trials necessary to search a good schedule.
Through simulation on large-scale topologies,
the proposed coding-based scheme is shown to find a good schedule of the multipath-multicast file transfer with a less number of trails, compared to the coding-less original one. |
