With the progress of the aging society, lack of caregivers and reducing their load is
one of the important issues.
To cope with this issue, we have been developing robotic wheelchairs to reduce caregivers' load and
facilitate communication between wheelchair users and companions by moving together side by side.
To realize our robotic wheelchair that can move with companions, we have utilized the LIDARs and
cameras for tracking positions of the companions.
However the robustness against occlusions and high cost of LIDARs are still remained as the challenges
for making the robotic wheelchair to the commercial product.
In this paper we therefore propose the new robotic wheelchair system that employs low cost BLE sensors
in smart phones for recognizing proximity of companions. |
