Artificial bihemispheric cerebellar network model to simulate VOR motor learning
Keiichiro Inagaki, Yuaka Hirata (Chubu Univ.) HIP2016-60
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The cerebellar flocculus is essential on the motor control. The vestibuloocular reflex (VOR), which maintains stable vision during head motion by counter-rotating the eyes in the orbit, has been one of the most popular model systems to investigate the role of the cerebellum in biological adaptive control. The long term depression (LTD) and long term potentiation (LTP) at parallel fibers-Purkinje cells synapses are considered to play major roles in cerebellar motor learning. It is reported that uni-lateral cerebellar lesion causes reduction of ipsi-lateral VOR performance acquired by the acute motor learning and indicated that each cerebellar hemisphere plays different roles in the leftward and rightward eye movement control and learning. Several computational models for VOR motor learning have been proposed. These models, however, described the cerebellar neuronal circuitry without distinguishing two hemispheres. Therefore, roles of bihemispheric cerebellar architecture underlying the VOR motor learning have not been fully understood. Here we configured an anatomically and physiologically plausible bihemispheric cerebellar neuronal network model composed of spiking neurons, and evaluated the bihemispheric structure on VOR motor learning, and consequence of unilateral lesion of the cerebellum.
