Tungsten based field emission cathode(W-FE) has been used for SEM as high brightness and narrow energy distribution cathode compare with thermal emission cathode(W-FIL). However, W-FE (Single crystal) has some problems, that is expensive and complex for modification by regular flashing process.
We have been studied about Thoriated-Tungsten(Th-W) field emission cathode fabricated from Th-W wires to achieve low-cost and easy to use, high brightness cathode. In this report, we report the process of covering with Thorium and changing I-V characteristics with the thermal processing. |
