English oral reporting practice using online video clips and its evaluation

(in English) In the era of multicultural society, we have to tackle with problems which don’t have one good solution, through discussion and dialogues with people who have different background and history. While English Communication skill should be acquired through education, it is also important to alleviate students’ foreign language anxiety. Otherwise, the efforts to improve English communication skills end in vain. Spielmann Radnofsky (2001) satated “In the recent L2 teaching context, one of the greatest challenges for ESL/EFL teachers is to provide students with a learner-centered, low-anxiety, and comfortable classroom environment.” To enhance students’ motivation, we introduce EnglishCentral into our activities for better English education. We conducted pre/post test using Versant English test and evaluation of oral report of movie clips by a Filipino teacher and confirmed the improvement. By questionnaires and talks with the students, we also confirmed their foreign language anxiety decreased.
