A study for improving a goodput estimation method in video streaming services

(in English) In the video distribution service using HTTP based Adaptive bitrate streaming technology, we have studied a method that predicts the maximum bit rate that does not cause rebuffering by using past download speed (goodput) information gathered from other users to maximize quality of experience(QoE).
However, we did not sufficiently take into account various factors that cause goodput changes in the mobile environment and others.
Specifically, the goodput is influenced by the data size of the chunk, a base station and a cell allocate different communication modes to a user, appropriate temporal granularity may depends on the time of day.
By taking these factors into account, accuracy of goodput prediction may increase.
In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics of goodputs collected in the video viewing experiments in the real environment and made considerations to improve the accuracy of goodput prediction.
As a result, the prediction accuracy is improved by inputting the chunk size, estimating the communication modes, and appropriate temporal granularity.
