[Poster Presentation] Online algorithm of swallowing detection using close-range depth sensor

(in English) We are developing an online algorithm of detecting and counting swallowing motions from a depth image sequence
for contactless swallowing function evaluation based on the repetitive saliva swallowing test (RSST).
Our algorithm firstly finds a face region and cuts out a neck region from each frame of a close-range depth image sequence.
During the estimation of the principal components of the neck depth images, outliers are indentified as the swallowing motions.
The inliers are used for the updates of the principal components by the incremental SVD, in which
a forgetting factor weights the relative contribution of the new depth images for adaptive detection of the outliers.
The computational cost due to a large number of pixels can be reduced by random projection to meet real-time processing requirements.
