In this experiment, the electromagnetic contactor with two pairs of Ag and Ni alloy contacts was used. The source voltage was set to 3 V DC below the minimum arc voltage and the closed contacts current was set to 10, 20, and 30A. We examined the influence of this circuit condition and breaking / making operation on contact resistance, arc duration, arc energy, and electrode mass change. The amount of change in mass of the electrode was obtained from the electronic balance and the 3D laser microscope.
As a results, it was found that arc discharge occurs due to influence of the inductance in the circuit even under the minimum arc voltage. When source voltage was applied only breaking, the electrode mass change amount, the large difference in the two pairs of contacts had occurred. On the other hand, when voltage was applied only making, a dent locally occurred on the anode and protrusions occurred on the cathode. |
