In recent years, wireless access points (APs) based on IEEE 802.11 standard are widely deployed for off-loading as widespread use of smart-phone leads to more data traffic.
However, since IEEE 802.11 employs CSMA/CA as a basic medium access control, there could be dead spots where terminals suffer from much lower throughput than the others depending on the relative terminal positions owing to frame collisions by hidden terminals and loss of transmission opportunities by exposed terminals.
To cope with this problem, in this paper, we propose a novel scheme with combination of a carrier sense threshold control (CSTC) in which each terminal autonomously adjusts its CST and a transmission opportunity control in which each AP gives outer terminals more
transmission opportunities than vicinal terminals by using CTS-self.
Simulation experiments are conducted in order to compare the proposal scheme to a scheme employing only the CSTC and a scheme employing the transmission opportunity control using CTS-self.
Simulation results show that the proposal scheme provides more the lowest throughput than the others so that the effectiveness of the proposal scheme is confirmed. |
