MPTCP (Multipath TCP), which is an extended protocol of TCP, performs multipath communication using multiple TCP subflows with multiple IP addresses. The performance of MPTCP is affected by various factors such as bandwidth limitation, delay, packet losses, memory constraint. In this paper, we investigate the throughput under insufficient sending / receiving socket buffer size. Experiments with actual MPTCP hosts were carried out using two subflows with different delays using a network emulator. The results show that the throughput of MPTCP differs depending on send and receive buffer size limitations. The insufficient send socket buffer size brought an intermittent data transmission caused by MPTCP level retransmissions and had stronger influence than the insufficient receive buffer size. |
