Improving Energy Efficiency in Dense WLANs through Inversely Proportional Setting of Carrier Sense Threshold and Transmit Power

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper proposes an energy-efficient game for inversely proportional setting (IPS) of carrier sense threshold (CST) and transmit power of 802.11 devices. Tuning the CST and the transmit power has been shown to facilitate the spatial reuse and to reduce total energy consumption in dense wireless local area networks (WLANs). To avoid asymmetric carrier sensing relationships, we jointly adjust the CST and the transmit power in an inversely proportional manner. The proposed scheme is formulated as a potential game so that the existence of the equilibrium is guaranteed. We evaluate the proposed scheme in terms of system energy efficiency (EE) and average throughput. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides considerable improvement in EE and average throughput under various node densities.
