| 抄録 | （和） | We know very little about how the native speakers encode, store and retrieve loanwords and their equivalent native words when both types of words are competing to be used in sentences. Do the native speakers process English loanwords differently than equivalent Hindi words? We investigated this problem by manipulating the grammar of Hindi. Participants (N=16; F=7) were asked to judge the grammar of Hindi sentences. Results reveal that English loanwords are processed very rapidly than equivalent Hindi words. Target Hindi words are not part of the day-to-day discourse and temporary memory of native speakers, suggesting faster reaction time and more accuracy for the correct sentences with English loanwords than equivalent Hindi words. |
