5G Field Experimental Trial for URLLC Using New Frame Structure

(in English) 5G and 5G+ will need to support Ultra-Reliability and Low Latency Communications (URLLC) usage scenario to enable mission-critical applications. With the aim to verify the feasibility of the URLLC related requirements in real environments, field experimental trials on URLLC using new frame structure were conducted in Yokohama, Japan. In this paper, we present the trial results and investigate the impact on performance of 5G new frame structure and retransmission method. A 60-kHz subcarrier spacing and self-contained structure are adopted to reduce user-plane latency, and acknowledgement/negative acknowledgement -less (ACK /NACK-less) retransmission is applied to improve packet success probability. We test these techniques using the prototype test-bed in a real field for both downlink and uplink. The field trial results show that IP packet with 200 bytes can be transmitted with a high reliability of 99.999%, furthermore, the URLLC requirements defined by the 3GPP are achieved even for a low signal-to-noise ratio or non-line-of-sight location.
