In cloud computing, when data center is far away from users, it may provide a poor quality of service to users. To improve the quality of service for each user, mobile edge computing (MEC) which locates edge servers on access networks has been proposed. MEC can provide low-latency and high-speed service compared to cloud computing. In MEC where various flows with different round-trip times (RTTs) coexist, a RTT-unfairness problem arises. Moreover, these flows have different requirements in terms of transmission rate. Therefore, a throughput of each flow need to be controlled according to flow requirements and independently of RTT. To meet the requirements
of each flow in such MEC, we previously proposed a bandwidth allocation scheme based on collectable information and showed the effectiveness of this approach in MEC. However, this scheme may degrade link utilization in ac-
cess networks if it reallocates an unutilized bandwidth to flows through paths without a sufficient bandwidth. In this study, we propose a bandwidth allocation scheme based on residual bandwidth information to improve link
utilization in MEC. We show the effectiveness of this approach through simulation evaluations. |
