(in English) Electronic book terminals have excellent screens and display functions, however at the time of reading a novel, it is only displayed similar to the paper book currently. We propose a system for generating background color of electronic book based on text of a novel. It extracts feature words from the novel, and searches for images by those words as query on the Web. Then calculate the average color of the images and use them as the “word-color”, and produce the background color according to importance of each word in the novel. In this paper, we describe the system and examine the influence of the proposed method in reading experience. As a result of evaluating the proposed e-book application by 10 participants, increased empathy is observed, however the readability needs to be improved. In this research, the usefulness of this system for improving the reading experience is confirmed.
