Solar power generation and electric vehicles (EV) that use high current with high DC voltage are increasing. The role of electrical contacts to reliably shut off the DC power supply circuit is important in such systems. In order to extinguish the DC arc discharge, a method called "magnetic blow-out" by a magnetic field is widely used. In the experiment, the magnetic flux density was varied in the range of 1.2 to 150 mT, the source voltage was DC 100, 300, 500 V, and the current was set to 10 A constant. The opening speed of the contact is three patterns of 10, 50, 100 mm/s. And, the contact material is tungsten. Arc duration and arc energy were obtained from the voltage / current waveform and power waveform of the arc discharge. As a result, the arc duration was almost inversely proportional to the increase in magnetic flux density. Furthermore, the arc duration was reduced by 80% or more with a magnetic flux density of 10 mT. |
