Evaluation of Signal Environment in Airport by Optically Connected Passive Surveillance System

(in English) Electronic Navigation Research Institute (ENRI) proposed an optically connected passive surveillance system (OCTPASS) that can carry out positioning, even if signals transmitted by aircraft are distorted in multipath environment. Therefore, OCTPASS is expected to achieve higher detection rate in comparison with the general multilatelation (MLAT). In this paper, we present signal environment of Mode S in airport obtained by an OCTPASS prototype which are deployed in Sendai Airport. Comparing signals detected by some receivers at the same time, we discuss the signal distortion and the rate of unused signals for aircraft positioning.
