Comparison Analysis of 2D Cel Animation and 3DCG for Creating 2D Cel Animation from 3DCG

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, it was examined what is the difference between 3DCG and 2D animation in still images. Images of 3DCG, toon shader and 2D animation images were analyzed and compared using histogram and two-dimensional Fourier transform. As a result, it turned out that 3DCG has the characteristic that the histogram gently changes. In toon shader and 2D animation, it was found that there is a difference in texture of 3DCG model and anti-aliasing. As a result of subjective evaluation, it was found that there is slight difference due to anti-aliasing and the influence of histogram of texture is large.
Therefore, reducing the gradation of the texture of 3DCG and to strengthen anti-aliasing make 3DCG like 2D animation.
