(in English) It is widely recognized that hypertension is an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. For diagnosis of hypertension, correct measurement of blood pressure (BP) is necessary. Traditionally, BP was measured at hospital, but clinical trials revealed the effectiveness of home measured BP. Currently, diagnosis and treatment based on the home measured BP are widely recommended. To utilize home BP in medical diagnosis, it is important that patients themselves can measure BP easily and correctly. For that purpose, technologies to improve accuracy and usability were developed. In addition, technologies to capture BP variability such as nocturnal and morning hypertension and abrupt changes in blood pressure are developed. Such BP variability is known to increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases, and it is expected to establish its measurement technology.
