| 抄録 | （和） | There is considerable disagreement over how the mental lexicon in one’s second language (L2) is constructed in the human mind. Some suggest that the structure of L2 mental lexicon is similar to that of one’s first language (L1) (Wolter, 2001; Wilks & Meara, 2002), while others claim that its structure is quite different (Channell, 1990). In this study, we adopted the word association task in Wilks and Meara (2002). We asked our participants to identify word associations in word sets made of words selected from the New JACET List of 8000 Basic Words to investigate how the L2 mental lexicon is organized. The results of the experiment showed that the participants whose proficiency level of English ranged from elementary to intermediate were more likely to choose high-frequency words to make word pairs. This suggests that basic vocabulary could be functioning as ‘hubs’ that help link the words in the L2 mental lexicon of the learners whose proficiency level of English is from elementary to intermediate (Vitevitch et al., 1999). |
