Traffic Prediction by Extracting Users' Access Patterns

(in English) Due to the emergence of diverse network services and devices, traffic patterns in recent networks become highly complicated. This recent trend raises a new need for network operators to perform traffic prediction based on users’ network access patterns. However, predicting traffic of each user or service requires huge computing resources and may cause degradation of prediction accuracy. In this paper, we propose a novel traffic prediction method based on users’ access patterns. Our method automatically extracts hidden users’ access patterns from traffic data by using NTF (Non-negative Tensor Factorization), and predicts future traffic for each access pattern on the basis of a SARIMA (Seasonal Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average) model. We evaluate our method using real DNS (Domain Name System) query logs captured at a campus network.
