Design and Operation of RSFQ Distributed Output Amplifier Equipped with double-stack SQUIDs

(in English) Recently, many groups have been proposed Rapid Single-Flux-Quantum (RSFQ) output amplifiers which are designed to connect RSFQ circuitry to room temperature electronics. We focus on a superconducting distributed amplifier (DA) comprising cascaded fundamental cells each of which comprises of an RS flip-flop and a read-out SQUID. In the previous report, a 12-stage RSFQ DA was demonstrated, in which the output voltage swing was 1.75 mV for 10 Gbps data link. Enhancement of the output voltage swing is important to realize connections with wider bandwidths from low temperature to room temperature environment. In this report, we propose a DA in which a single-SQUID is replaced with a double-SQUID. By introducing double-SQUIDs, the output voltage swing is expected to be two-fold. In simulation, the maximum output voltage swing of a 4-stage double-SQUID DA was 3.54 mV, which was 2.07 times larger than that of a single-SQUID DA. We fabricated a 4-stage double-DA using a Nb integration technology. The maximum output voltage swing of 2.93 mV was demonstrated and its operation conditions were in good agreement with the numerical results. We also designed and fabricated a 12-stage and 24-stage double-DA, each of which the maximum output voltage swings were 8.23 and 14.4 mV, respectively.
