A vibration cutting method is a precision machining technique with the regularly vibrating tool. The method polishes the surface smoother than a conventional cutting. However, there is an upper limit of the cutting speed called the critical cutting speed above which, chattering vibration occurs. In addition, some studies can suppress abnormal vibrations show weak harmonics. In this paper, we numerically the effects of the application of the weak harmonics to the investigate vibration cutting method (harmonic superimposed vibration cutting method).First, we present a mathematical model of the vibration cutting and describe motion equation and behaviors.Next, by the obtained displacement of the workpiece from numerical simulations with and without the weak harmonics for several cutting speeds the vibration cutting method and the harmonic vibration cutting method are compared. Finally, it is shown that the harmonic superimposed vibration cutting method superior to the vibration cutting method. |
