Photocatalytic activity of zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films were improved by an electrochemical reduction treatment. The improvement of photocatalytic activity is attributed to the formation of a reduced layer with large surface area and high defect concentration. The improved photocatalytic activity was relatively stable, and the sample was reusable several times. As the treatment is performed at room temperature and the treatment time is relatively short, the electrochemical treatment is an excellent way to modify the photocatalytic properties of ZnO. |
