Speech of professional newscasters easily suggest us his/her occupation, that is newscaster. So far, we have analyzed prosodic differences between a professional newscaster and amateur speakers which affects listeners’ perceptual impression by applying speech synthesis technology. The results suggest that there are large gaps of skill not only between professional and amateur speakers, but also within amateur speakers. Therefore, this paper conducts large scale subjective evaluations and analyzes the oral reading skills of many professional and amateur speakers. A total of 1275 pairs of comparisons was performed on the natural speech of 51 speakers, and a continuous modeling of oral reading skills was attempted. An experiment to verify the obtained results was performed to determine whether the speech was uttered by a professional speaker, and the correlation with the results and the obtained reading skills was analyzed. In addition, we performed a similar experiment using synthesized speech, and verified whether the tendency of the subjective evaluation results was consistent between the natural speech and the synthesized speech. |
