Packet Distribution for Improving Fault Tolerance in Multipath Routing

(in English) The importance of network infrastructure in people's lives and socio-economic activities has increased with the explosion of network traffic. As the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) of network devices has become shorter, researches on multipath routing using multiple paths in parallel with fault tolerance different from single path routing are focused. In multipath routing, multiple paths are used from the source to the destination, so ingenuity for packet distribution is required. In order to use effectively the network capacity of multiple routes, weighted round robin distribution is optimal, but there is a problem that most TCP flows are damaged when a route fails. Flow-based distribution is optimal to reduce the number of damages, but effective utilization of network capacity, which should be high priority, is not satisfied at the same time. In this paper, we propose a packet distribution method which improves the flow-based packet distribution, makes effective use of the network capacity equivalent to weighted round robin, and reduces the number of damaged flows in case of route failure.
