In developing an ultrasonic microscope using a thin waveguide, quartz glass has been used as a waveguide material. However, quartz glass is brittle fracture so that processing and handling are difficult. Therefore, we focused on metallic glass, which is an amorphous material. In this study, we studied the ultrasonic propagation characteristics of metallic glass in the 100 MHz-range. The results showed that metallic glass can propagate ultrasound in a wide range at high-frequency over 100 MHz. This property indicates its usefulness of metallic glass as a propagation medium for high-frequency ultrasound devices. |
