With the improved sensor capabilities of Earth observation satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), the volume of data transmitted from a satellite to a ground station is increasing. In order to realize the 10 Gbps class high-speed DT system while preventing the increase in resources of on-board equipment such as antennas and high-power amplifiers (HPA), the authors have researched a Variable Coding and Modulation (VCM) technology that changes the modulation method and back-off of the HPA according to the satellite elevation angle. We are studying the on-orbit demonstration of VCM technology from QPSK to 64APSK based on DVB-S2X by using the X-band transmitter that will be installed in the Rapid innovative payload demonstration satellite-2 (RAISE-2) scheduled to be launched in 2021. In this paper, we will describe the status of the study of the on-orbit demonstration. |
