Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This study is aiming at the realization of spatial sound acquisition and reproduction system that can reproduce a certain sound field in another space. In our proposed method, the beamforming techniques for the directional sound acquisition are applied to signals obtained by microphone arrays. This processing is comprehensively performed in all direction, and the system acquires signals for each direction of arrival. Since each signal obtained by beamforming is considered as one coming from a corresponding sound source, the head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) are convolved to synthesized the sound images. Then, the binaural signals are synthesized by summation all processed signals. In our system, it is necessary to install the wide microphone intervals for low frequency range to achieve uniform directivity characteristics regardless of frequency. That means an unrealistically huge array is needed. We investigate whether a smaller array can be realized by omitting the beamforming process in low frequency range. In our previous investigations, the results of the subjective experiments showed that no beamforming required in the region of frequencies lower than 600~Hz. In this report, the further experiments showed that the beamforming with smaller array than suitable size applied to the region of frequencies between 600 and 1200~Hz did not significantly influence on auditory evaluation.
