We have been developing wire-free robot arm technology for mechatronics equipment. The studies on robot arm are across three areas: wireless communication, electricity, and mechanics. In wireless communication, we use the millimeter-wave band in which a large amount of radio resources is available. A major challenge is to achieve both high reliability and low latency in environments with severe noise and reflection. In electricity, we employ wireless power transfer based on magnetic field resonance. A major challenge in this area is to realize wire-free power transfer with high power efficiency. In mechanics, we design both a wire-free robot arm structure suitable for wireless power transfer and easily-removable component in order to realize easy parameter configurations and maintenance. This paper presents current research results of robot arm mechanism suitable for wireless power transfer and millimeter-wave band wireless communication, mainly focusing in its mechanics. |
