Dynamically prioritized virtual-network monitoring according to uptime of virtual machines

(in English) A monitoring method that utilizes Ethernet OAM, which was originally developed for monitoring failures in wide-area networks, was developed to make efficient the failure management of a lot of virtual machines in data centers. Network administrators must make a failure-rate model in advance of using the monitoring method. This report proposes a new virtual-network monitoring method that manages early fail and wear-out as independent and selects dynamically targeted network ports monitored by Ethernet OAM based on uptime of virtual machines. As an evaluation result of a simulation study, the proposed method reduced the average server-failure locating time by 0.8% compared to the prior method that selects randomly monitored ports. It can be said that the proposed method enables to utilize Ethernet OAM in data centers running a lot of virtual machines for cloud services without making failure models.
