Communication-Less Receiver-Side Resonant Frequency Tuning for Wireless Power Transfer Using Magnetic Resonant Coupling

(in English) The performance of the wireless power transfer (WPT) system using magnetic resonant coupling (MRC) is degraded by resonant frequency shift. In this paper, we propose a communication-less receiver-side resonant frequency tuning method using a variable reactor based on a Class-D power inverter. The proposed method can compensate for the residual reactance in the receiver without any communication between the transmitter and receiver. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated through circuit simulations assuming a kHz band WPT system for mobile device charging. It is confirmed that the resonant frequency tuning can be achieved by controlling the variable reactor to maximize the received power at the load.
