Position estimation method for a bicycle to reduce accidents between a bicycle and autonomous driving vehicle by linking multiple cameras using CPS

(in English) The number of deaths and injuries while riding bicycles has become a problem in Japan, and most of these accidents are caused by collisions with autonomous driving vehicles (ADV) at intersections with poor visibility. Therefore, there are concerns about accidents in the future when ADV become widespread. So, research has been conducted to estimate the position of a bicycle using a single camera installed at intersections to determine collisions with ADV. However, the conventional method does not take acceleration into account to estimate the position, and errors in the estimated position have been a problem. In this paper, we propose a method to estimate the position of a bicycle based on past bicycle information by linking multiple cameras using Cyber-Physical System (CPS), and confirmed an improvement of 36.4 points in the error range of 0.0 m to 2.0 m.
