Akiko Sugimoto, Mitsuyo Shibasaki (Meisei Univ.), Koji Yoshida (Hijiyama Univ.) TL2020-23
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A cross-sectional study on typically developing children from second, fourth and six grades and normal adults was conducted, to examine how Japanese reading ability and the visual attention (VA) span develop, and how the VA span is related to the development of reading ability. A battery including reading ability tests, VA span tasks and one-character recognition tasks was administered. Results showed that reading accuracy and fluency improve and the VA span get larger at more advanced ages, and the VA span abilities contribute to reading accuracy more than one character recognition abilities.
