Interference Path Loss Measurements at 4 GHz Radio Altimeter Band Based on Twin Turboprop Aircraft -- Evaluations Using Beechcraft B300 aircraft --

(in English) This report discusses interference path loss (IPL) measurements at 4 GHz radio altimeter band using a twin turboprop aircraft. Wireless Avionics Intra-Communication (WAIC) devices operate between 4,200 MHz and 4,400 MHz. This is the same frequency band as aircraft radio altimeters. In addition, 5 G mobile systems have been operated on the both adjacent band these of radio altimeter band. To investigate the electromagnetic characteristics of actual aircraft, the radio altimeter IPL is measured based on RTCA DO-307A procedures. Firstly, an overview of the Beechcraft B300 and a specification of on-board radio altimeter is discussed. Then, the radio altimeter IPL measurement set-up and conditions are discussed. Finally, the measured IPL values with the transmitting antenna inside of the cabin is 72.8 dB. This is not significantly small compared with that of the Airbus A321 (74.4 dB). In addition, the measured IPL values with the transmitting antenna outside of the cabin is 55.0 dB.
