This paper presents the design of the lens antenna array dedicated to THz applications operated at 300 GHz. The proposed design antenna is based on replacing a single-large-aperture lens into N small-aperture lens elements with the focus to diameter ratio (F/D) of a lens antenna unchanged, the overall thickness of the proposed antenna is reduced by N times to achieve high gain beam antenna and offers further reductions in mass and height of lens array in applications. Correspondingly, antenna height reduces by 40% in the proposed 2x2 lens array comparing to single-large-aperture lens antenna without performance degradation. Besides, lens shaping techniques have also been applied in this design to study the performance of the lens antenna array. Plano-convex and concave-convex lenses shaped are used in the design. The simulation results of the concave-convex lens antenna array produced gain at 34 dBi, narrow radiated beamwidth for both boresight-axis at E-plane and H-plane, and reliable sidelobe levels with more than -15dB. |
